The taxes a business here deals with
A small business in Seychelles deals with one authority, the Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC), for the main taxes. Business tax applies to profit: sole traders and partnerships pay 0 % on the first SR 102,666 of taxable income and 15 % up to SR 1 million, companies 15 % on the first SR 1 million, and 25 % applies above SR 1 million. Value Added Tax, in force since 2010, is run from the same SRC Tax Portal. Employers withhold income tax from salaries and send it by the 21st of the next month, with a payroll statement filed electronically once there are 10 or more employees.
Other levies depend on the sector. The Tourism Marketing Tax of 0.5 % reaches hotels, restaurants, car hire, tour operators, banks, insurers and telecoms with turnover of SR 1 million or more. Accommodation operators with very large turnover pay an Accommodation Turnover Tax, and guests at larger accommodation pay a per-night Tourism Environmental Sustainability Levy collected by the establishment. Social contributions go to the Seychelles Pension Fund, not to the SRC.
The main change coming is the electronic invoicing system announced in the 2026 Budget Speech for the second half of 2026. It is phased, starts with larger VAT-registered businesses, and comes with a firmer duty to give customers a VAT receipt. Earlier, from 1 January 2025, the voluntary VAT registration floor was set at SCR 100,000 of taxable supplies.
The small-business regime
Businesses with annual turnover below SR 1 million can use the presumptive tax, set out in the Tenth Schedule of the Business Tax Act and in force since January 2013. It is a flat 1.5 % of the turnover of the year, paid with a simple one-page return by 31 March, and no expenses are deducted. The SRC still encourages keeping income and expense records for at least seven years in case turnover later passes the limit and the business moves to ordinary business tax. Since 2022 a business may also prepay through the Pay As You Go scheme by paying 1.5 % of income received in any month with a payment slip. No penalty applies for skipping a month, but the annual return must still be filed on time.
