The taxes a business here deals with
Almost every national tax a South Sudanese business pays is collected by the South Sudan Revenue Authority, through the eTax portal. A company pays business profit tax at a flat 30% of net profit, the same for small, medium and large enterprises (Financial Act 2023/24, s.8). A sole proprietor who keeps no audited accounts pays a fixed annual amount set by turnover band instead of a rate on profit. Employers withhold personal income tax from wages, and also withhold on payments such as rent, technical and consultancy fees, dividends and interest.
There is no VAT. Sales tax is charged only on imports, locally manufactured goods and listed services such as hotels, restaurants, bars, telecommunications and financial-service fees. Excise duty applies on top for goods like beer, spirits, tobacco and fuel. Returns and payments for these taxes fall due by the 15th of the following month.
Rates are reset every year by the Financial Act, so check the current one. The newest text published by the Ministry of Finance and Planning is the Finance Bill for FY 2025/2026, uploaded in December 2025, and its enactment had not been confirmed when this page was written. A sales tax chapter also says 20% where the rate schedule says 18%, which is why you should confirm the rate for your goods with the Revenue Authority.
