What the labour law requires on a payslip
The Labour Act 2017 (Act No. 64), section 52, requires an employer to give an employee a written pay statement with each payment of wages or salary, in a form and language the employee understands. It must show the gross amount, each deduction and the purpose of that deduction, the method of payment if part of the net amount is paid differently, and any accrued entitlements owed to the employee. An employer who fails to give an accurate statement is liable and punishable by law.
Section 51 limits deductions: statutory taxes and contributions and court-ordered alimony are always allowed, but the other deductions together may not exceed 20% of remuneration for an employee paid less than three times the minimum wage, or 30% above that ceiling. Section 49(3) sets pay day: end of each day for hourly or daily staff, end of the month for those employed up to a month. Section 54 also requires a wage register with no blanks or erasures.
