What to get right on a electrician and artisan quotation
- List materials by item and quantity, so the client can see they are paying for the cable gauge and fittings you specified and not a cheaper substitute.
- On large jobs, split labour into stages (first fix, second fix, testing) and tie each payment to a stage.
- Say how long material prices are held. Cable and fittings follow the exchange rate, so a short validity protects you.
Questions people ask
Should materials and labour be on separate lines?
Yes. Clients often buy materials themselves to save money; separate lines let them do that without renegotiating your labour.
What if I find faulty old wiring once I start?
Say on the quotation that remedial work on existing wiring is excluded and will be quoted separately if found. It is the most common surprise in rewiring.
Should the quote mention safety testing?
State what testing you will do before handover and whether a written report is included. It reassures the client and settles what 'finished' means.
