What to get right on a electrician and artisan invoice
- Split labour from materials. Clients want to see the parts cost, and WHT differs: 2% on goods, 5% on services.
- Name the brand and capacity of every major item so warranty questions have an answer.
- Add a workmanship warranty period in the notes, even if it is only 30 days.
Questions people ask
Should I add VAT on materials?
If you are above the small-company threshold, VAT applies to both labour and materials at 7.5%. Below it, no VAT on either.
Client bought the materials themselves. What do I invoice?
Labour only. Note on the invoice that materials were supplied by the client.
Can I invoice in stages?
Yes. Proforma for materials upfront, final invoice for labour on completion.
