What to know in Lagos

  • Employers file monthly PAYE schedules and pay through e-Tax; the annual return (Form H1) is filed on the same portal by 31 January.
  • Individuals file the annual return of income (Form A) on e-Tax by 31 March.

Who collects personal income tax in Lagos State?
Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS). Personal income tax and PAYE are state taxes under federal law: the rates are set by the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, the collection is by LIRS.
What are the PAYE rates in Lagos?
The same as every state: 0% on the first ₦800,000 of annual chargeable income, then 15%, 18%, 21%, 23% and 25% above ₦50 million, with rent relief and pension deducted first and no tax at or below the ₦70,000 monthly minimum wage.
When is PAYE due to LIRS?
Employers remit by the 10th of the month following the salary month and file the annual return by 31 January. Individuals file their annual return of income by 31 March.
Which state do I pay PAYE to if my company is elsewhere?
The state where the employee lives. A company registered in another state with staff resident in Lagos remits their PAYE to LIRS.
How do I get a LIRS taxpayer ID?
A Payer ID beginning with N, issued on the e-Tax portal and used alongside your TIN. Register on the LIRS e-Tax with your TIN, NIN and address, or at a LIRS office.
