What to get right on a fashion designer / tailor invoice
- Show the deposit already paid and the balance due at collection as two lines under the total.
- Write the collection date on the invoice. It is the single most disputed thing in tailoring.
- If a company orders uniforms, they will deduct 5% withholding tax on services. Add your TIN so they can remit it in your name.
Questions people ask
- Do I need to charge VAT as a tailor?
- Only if your turnover is above the small-company threshold of โฆ50 million a year. Most tailors are below it and should leave the VAT toggle off.
- Can I invoice for a deposit?
- Yes. Use the proforma generator for the deposit request, then issue the final invoice when the garment is ready.
- Should I list fabric separately?
- If you bought the fabric, list it as its own line so the client sees the material cost apart from your labour.
