What to get right on a fashion designer / tailor invoice

  • Show the deposit already paid and the balance due at collection as two lines under the total.
  • Write the collection date on the invoice. It is the single most disputed thing in tailoring.
  • If a company orders uniforms, they will deduct 5% withholding tax on services. Add your TIN so they can remit it in your name.

Questions people ask

Do I need to charge VAT as a tailor?
Only if your turnover is above the small-company threshold of โ‚ฆ50 million a year. Most tailors are below it and should leave the VAT toggle off.
Can I invoice for a deposit?
Yes. Use the proforma generator for the deposit request, then issue the final invoice when the garment is ready.
Should I list fabric separately?
If you bought the fabric, list it as its own line so the client sees the material cost apart from your labour.
