Writing amounts in words here
The currency is the Qatari riyal (QAR, written QR), divided into 100 dirhams. Write an amount such as QR 1,250.50 in words as one thousand two hundred and fifty riyals and fifty dirhams. Arabic invoices state prices in riyals (ريال), as article 4 of the Consumer Protection Executive Regulations requires.
If a cheque shows the amount in both words and figures and they differ, the words prevail (article 565 of Commercial Law No. 27 of 2006). The same applies to a bill of exchange (article 457).
If a bill of exchange states the sum several times in words, or several times in figures, the smaller amount prevails (article 457). To avoid a dispute, write the amount once in words and once in figures, and make them match.
