Rules and facts

The taxes a business here deals with

Qatar taxes business through the General Tax Authority (GTA), and everything is filed on its Dhareeba portal. The main charges are income tax under Law No. 24 of 2018, a final withholding tax on certain payments to non-residents, capital gains tax and excise tax under Law No. 25 of 2018. There is no VAT.

Capital gains tax is 10% of the gain (35% for petroleum and petrochemical assets). A return is due within 30 days of the contract or the disposal, whichever comes first. Gains made by individuals on real estate or securities that are not part of a business are exempt.

Two recent changes matter. From fiscal years beginning on or after 1 January 2025, groups with consolidated revenue above EUR 750 million pay a 15% global and domestic minimum tax (Law No. 22 of 2024 and Council of Ministers Resolution No. 2 of 2026). Since 6 July 2026, Law No. 2 of 2026 taxes sweetened drinks per litre by sugar content: exempt below 5 g per 100 ml, QR 0.77 per litre from 5 g, and QR 1.06 per litre from 8 g.
