Issuing a valid invoice here
Under section 29 of the VAT Act, 2011, a VAT-registered business must give another taxable person an original tax invoice within 30 days after the date of the supply, and keep one copy itself.
If the customer loses the original, the supplier may issue a duplicate, which must be clearly marked "COPY". Section 29(4) defines a tax invoice as an invoice containing the particulars specified in the Third Schedule, so a document that leaves them out is not a tax invoice for VAT purposes.
The 30-day clock runs from the date of the supply, not from the date of payment, and the duty in section 29(1) applies to supplies made to another taxable person. Keep your retained copy with your other VAT records for the period set out in the invoicing guide.
