Who must file

Every company, and every other entity that is not an individual, files annually — including a business registered but not yet trading, which must also write to the Commissioner General explaining why. Individuals file if they had two or more employers, business or property income on top of a salary, directors' fees, income from professional services, bank or building society interest or dividends, or gross employment income over the threshold in the Commissioner General's notice for that year. Public Officers file for their companies, trustees for trusts. Pensioners with more than one source of income, clergy, MPs, board members, partners and locally recruited embassy staff all file. You do not file if you stayed with one employer all year on Final Deduction System pay only and earned under that threshold.

Tax year and deadline

The tax year runs 1 July to 30 June. For the year ended 30 June 2026: all non-individual entities — VAT-registered or not — and presumptive taxpayers file and pay by 31 October 2026; individuals file and pay by 30 November 2026. On an approved non-June year-end you have four months after your financial year ends. The exact segments and the employment-income threshold are reset each year by the Commissioner General's annual notice, so read the current one before you rely on a date.

Filing step by step

  1. Read the Commissioner General's Annual Income Tax Return Submission notice for the year on ers.org.sz and find your taxpayer segment and its deadline.
  2. Settle your second provisional tax instalment first — it was due by the last day of the tax year, and ERS may block your annual filing until it is in.
  3. Log in to TaxEase and complete the return there. It is the only accepted channel: ERS treats a return submitted any other way as never submitted, with non-submission penalties.
  4. Attach financial statements. ERS accepts draft statements when the signed audited accounts are not ready by the deadline, provided you send the signed set as soon as it is.
  5. Pay by EFT, MoMo Pay, a speed point at an ERS Service Centre, or bank deposit using an ERS-branded slip, referencing TIN + tax item code + year + month. Cash is not accepted anywhere. Late filing costs 20% of the tax payable, or E20 a day while you are in default if you made a loss, plus 18% interest a year.
