When a quote or proforma has legal weight
A quotation to the public is not a tax invoice. Under section 58 of the GST Act, a GST-registered business must include the GST component in every written and verbal quotation it gives to consumers, and a quote that shows both the GST-exclusive and GST-inclusive price must show the inclusive figure at least as prominently. Each breach carries a fine of up to S$5,000.
IRAS requires a tax invoice, not a quotation, to support a GST-registered customer's input tax claim on standard-rated purchases.
