Issuing a valid invoice here
A Malaysian e-Invoice is not a PDF you create and email. The supplier creates it in the MyInvois Portal, either one invoice at a time on the form or by uploading an Excel batch, or sends it from accounting software, and submits it to the Inland Revenue Board (IRBM) for validation at once. LHDN's e-Invoice Guideline Version 4.8 (30 August 2026), paragraph 2.3.2, says to submit immediately after the sale and to make the data as accurate as possible.
Once validated, the invoice must be shared with the buyer. The version generated by MyInvois carries a QR code the buyer can scan to check that the invoice exists and what its status is. Paragraph 2.3.5 adds a concession, until further notice: you may give the buyer either the validated e-Invoice or a visual copy of it, such as a PDF or printout of the validated document. A plain PDF that was never submitted and validated is not an e-Invoice.
The guideline lists four document types you may issue: invoice (including a self-billed e-Invoice for an expense), credit note, debit note and refund note.
