Writing amounts in words here
Where an amount is written in both words and figures and they disagree, the words win. Section 9(2) of the Bills of Exchange Act 1949 (Act 204) says the sum denoted by the words is the amount payable. Section 73 makes a cheque a bill of exchange drawn on a banker and payable on demand, so the same rule applies to cheques.
Bank Negara Malaysia's cheque truncation FAQs add the practical side. Cheques have a standard 3.5 inch by 7 inch size with boxes for the date and for the amount in figures, and banks return a cheque marked "words and figures differ" rather than choose between them. The bank does not accept an altered cheque at all, so a correction should be made by writing a new cheque. Write the words in full and make the figures in the box match.
