Issuing a valid invoice here
Under section 22 of the General Consumption Tax Act, what a registered business hands over depends on the customer. A sale to another GCT-registered business needs a tax invoice, because that buyer uses it to claim input tax credit.
A sale to anyone else, such as a member of the public or an unregistered firm, needs a receipt that shows the value of the supply and the GCT charged as separate figures. The one exception is when those particulars are already clearly displayed on the item sold.
If you invoice in a foreign currency, section 21 converts the amount into Jamaican dollars at the rate specified by the Bank of Jamaica when the tax becomes due and payable. Keep a note of the rate used on the invoice file, because the GCT return is filed in Jamaican dollars.
