Writing amounts in words here
On a cheque or a bill of exchange the sum is written both in words and in figures. If the two differ, the amount in words prevails (Art. 9(1) Scheckgesetz; Art. 6(1) Wechselgesetz). If the sum is written more than once in words, or more than once in figures, and the entries differ, the smallest sum applies (Art. 9(2) ScheckG; Art. 6(2) WG).
A cheque must also contain the word Scheck in the text of the document, in the language in which it is drawn, and an unconditional order to pay a fixed sum (Art. 1 ScheckG).
