Price rules that affect your markup
Bangladesh has no general maximum price list for small businesses, but the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009 punishes breaches of the price rules that other laws set. Section 40 punishes selling or offering to sell goods, medicines or services above a price fixed under any law or rule: up to one year in prison, a fine of up to Tk 50,000, or both.
Section 38 applies the same penalty to a shop that fails to display a price list of goods in a clearly visible place where the law requires it, and section 39 requires a price list of services to be kept and displayed. Section 37 requires packaged goods to state the weight, quantity, ingredients, maximum retail price, and production, packing and expiry dates.
