Writing amounts in words here
The currency is the Türk lirası (Turkish lira, TL or ₺), and its subunit is the kuruş (Kr), with 100 kuruş to the lira (Law 5083, article 1). The word "Yeni" was dropped from both names from 1 January 2009 under decision 2007/11963. In calculations and payments, half a kuruş and above rounds up to one kuruş (article 2).
When a bill of exchange shows the amount both in words and in figures and they differ, the amount in words prevails (Commercial Code article 676). If it is written more than once in words only, or in figures only, the smallest amount counts. Article 818(b) applies the same rule to cheques, and article 778 extends it to promissory notes.
