Price rules that affect your markup
Price display is regulated by the Consumer Protection Act (Cap. 48:10). Section 37(1) requires every supplier or trader to indicate clearly, in local currency, and exhibit to the public the price of any goods, technology or services, unless a written law exempts them. Section 38 requires labels, packages and advertisements to use an official language, legal tender and recognised measuring units, and section 44 requires advertisements to be truthful.
A contravention of the price-display or labelling duties is an offence, with a fine of K500,000 and imprisonment for five years under section 42.
