Issuing a valid invoice here

No special platform or fiscal device is needed to issue an invoice in Canada, so a PDF invoice is a valid invoice. What matters is the information on it. For every taxable sale other than a zero-rated one, the invoice or receipt must say that the price includes GST/HST, or show the tax as a separate amount, or show the rate. Where HST applies, show the total HST rate and not the federal and provincial parts separately.

For a customer who is a GST/HST registrant and wants to claim input tax credits, the information depends on the total on the document. Under $100: supplier name, invoice date and total. From $100 to under $500: add the supplier's GST/HST registration number and the tax paid or payable (or a statement that tax is included, with the rate). From $500: add the buyer's name, the payment terms and a description of each supply.

Zero-rated sales do not need tax shown. Where one invoice mixes supplies with different tax status, indicate the status of each (Input Tax Credit Information (GST/HST) Regulations, s. 3).
