Writing amounts in words here

Thai money is written in baht (บาท), divided into 100 satang (สตางค์). The Bank of Thailand's cheque standard treats satang as the two decimal digits of the amount, so ฿1,250.50 is one thousand two hundred and fifty baht and fifty satang. The BOT standard also tells cheque writers to write the amount in figures close to the ฿ symbol so that nothing can be added before it, and to write in black or dark-blue ink, never in pencil.

When the words and the figures differ, the Civil and Commercial Code settles the point (s.12): if the true intention cannot be established, the amount in words governs. When the amount appears several times in words, or several times in figures, and the versions differ, the smallest amount governs (s.13). Cheques follow the bills-of-exchange rules of the Code (s.989), which require an unconditional order to pay a definite sum (s.988).

Write the amount in words in full, and make the figures say the same thing. Do not correct or overwrite the amount on a cheque; the BOT standard advises against altering data on the face of the cheque.
