Writing amounts in words here
Where a cheque, bill or other instrument says an amount in words and in figures and they differ, the words win. Section 4.15 of the Liberian Commercial Code of 2010 states that, for contradictory terms, handwritten terms prevail over typewritten ones, typewritten over printed ones, and words over numbers. So write the amount in words in full and match the figures to it.
The official VAT invoice form in MFDP Regulation No. 136 (Schedule 7) has a line for the total amount inclusive of tax in words, with amounts in USD or LRD, so an invoice that will be a VAT tax invoice should state the total in words and the currency.
