What the labour law requires on a payslip
Article 48(2) of the Labor Standards Act (근로기준법) requires an employer who pays wages to issue a written wage statement (임금명세서). An electronic document counts. The duty was added on 18 May 2021 and applies from 19 November 2021 under Enforcement Decree Art. 27-2.
The statement must show the employee's identifying information such as name, date of birth and employee ID; the date of payment; the total amount of wages; the amount of basic salary, each allowance, bonus and performance bonus; how each item was calculated where it varies with working days or hours, including overtime, night and holiday hours; and each deduction with the total deducted.
An employer that fails to comply faces an administrative fine of up to KRW 5 million under Article 116(2).
Social contributions on each payslip
National Pension (국민연금, National Pension Service): 9.5% of the employee's standard monthly income from 1 January 2026, split 4.75% employee and 4.75% employer. The rate rises by 0.5 percentage point a year to 13% from 2033. It is due on the 10th of the following month, or the next business day if the 10th is a weekend or holiday.
Health insurance (건강보험, National Health Insurance Service): 7.19% for 2026, 3.595% each for employee and employer. Long-term care insurance (장기요양보험) is added at 0.9448%, calculated on the health premium as premium x 0.9448 / 7.19.
Employment insurance (고용보험): unemployment benefit contribution of 0.9% from the employee and 0.9% from the employer. The employer alone also pays the employment stability and vocational skills levy, 0.25% for a business with fewer than 150 employees.
Industrial accident insurance (산재보험) is paid wholly by the employer at a rate set by industry.
