Writing amounts in words here
Korean bills of exchange law settles a mismatch between words and figures in favour of the words. Under Article 6(1) of the Bills of Exchange and Promissory Notes Act (어음법), if the sum is written in words and also in figures and the two differ, the sum in words is payable.
Article 6(2) covers repetition: if the amount is written more than once in words, or more than once in figures, and the entries differ, the smaller sum is payable. Article 77(2) applies these rules to promissory notes (약속어음) as well, so the figures and the words should be written once each and checked against each other before signing.
