Writing amounts in words here
The currency is the rupiah, written in words as rupiah and abbreviated Rp (Law 7/2011 on Currency, Article 2(3)). The word does not take an English plural. One rupiah is 100 sen (Article 3(2)), but amounts are normally stated in whole rupiah.
Rupiah must be used in every transaction made to pay or settle a money obligation inside Indonesia (Article 21(1)). The exceptions are certain state-budget transactions, foreign grants, international trade, foreign-currency bank deposits and international financing (Article 21(2)). Nobody may refuse rupiah offered in payment unless its authenticity is in doubt, except where payment in foreign currency was agreed in writing (Article 23).
