Who can list in the United Kingdom, and how we check
Anyone in the UK may call themselves an accountant; 'Chartered Accountant' is controlled by the bodies' own rules rather than by statute. So we list only people we can find in their body's directory, such as ICAEW's Find a Chartered Accountant or ACCA's firm search, which also shows the certificates a firm holds. If you sign statutory audits we look for you on the Register of Statutory Auditors, and we ask who supervises you for anti-money laundering: a professional body or HMRC.
