Issuing a valid invoice here
A VAT-registered business issues its own invoice from accounting software or a template and sends it to the customer; HMRC does not issue invoice numbers or approve each invoice.
Issue a VAT invoice within 30 days of the tax point (the date of supply). A late invoice does not create a new tax point. Newly registered businesses still waiting for their VAT number have 30 days from being told the number.
Invoices may be written in a language other than English, but the business must be able to supply an English translation within 30 days if an HMRC officer asks.
The total VAT on every invoice must be shown in sterling, even when the price is in euros or dollars (VAT Notice 700, paragraphs 16.2.3, 16.2.4 and 16.4). A simplified invoice is allowed only if the customer agrees.
