Writing amounts in words here
The Bank of Zambia Act, 2022 (section 16) fixes the currency as the kwacha, abbreviated K, and the ngwee, abbreviated N or n, with one ngwee being one-hundredth of a kwacha. In words you write, for example, "One thousand kwacha and fifty ngwee"; kwacha and ngwee do not take an added s. The kwacha and ngwee are the sole legal tender (section 18).
Where a bill of exchange or cheque states the sum in words and in figures and they differ, the amount in words is payable. This is section 9(2) of the Bills of Exchange Act, 1882, which applies in Zambia under the British Acts Extension Act, Chapter 10. Write the words first on cheques and contracts and make them agree with the figures.
