Writing amounts in words here
Tanzania's currency is the Tanzania shilling (TZS, written TSh locally). The Bank of Tanzania divides it into one hundred cents (senti in Kiswahili). The shilling is the only legal tender, and the Bank of Tanzania alone issues notes and coins under the Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006, so amounts in words on Tanzanian invoices and contracts are written in shillings, with cents only where a fraction of a shilling is actually due.
In practice cents no longer appear on tax documents. TRA's return instructions say not to include cents: revenue is rounded down, and tax credits and deductions rounded up, to the nearest shilling. Tax documents may be in English or Kiswahili. In Kiswahili, write amounts as "Shilingi" followed by the words.
