Issuing a valid invoice here

New Zealand no longer has a fixed tax invoice. A GST-registered seller must give a registered buyer taxable supply information within 28 days of a request, or by a date the two parties agree, for any supply over $200. The information can sit across an invoice, a contract and a bank statement, and it can be exchanged system to system, for example over Peppol.

A plain PDF invoice is therefore valid if it carries the required details for the size of the sale. Amounts must be shown in New Zealand dollars. For sales over $200 and up to $1,000 show either the GST-exclusive amount, the GST amount and the GST-inclusive amount, or the GST-inclusive amount plus a statement that GST is included at the standard rate on everything listed.

Provide the information once. If the buyer loses it, send a copy; it does not need to be marked as a copy. For sales of $200 or less, nothing has to be given to the buyer, but the seller still keeps its own record of the sale.
