Section 6 of the Negotiable Instruments Act 2034 (विनिमेय अधिकारपत्र ऐन) says that when the amount payable on an instrument is written differently in figures and in words, the amount in words is the one recognised. The rule applies to cheques and bills of exchange alike. A cheque or contract amount should therefore be written in words and figures that match exactly, because if they differ the words decide the amount and the figures are ignored.
