Writing amounts in words here
Under art. 186 of the Wetboek van Koophandel a cheque whose amount is written in full in words and also in figures is valid for the sum in words if the two differ. If the amount is written several times, in words or in figures, only the smallest sum counts.
Art. 105 sets the same two rules for a bill of exchange (wisselbrief). Amounts on cheques and bills should therefore carry the words in full next to the figures, because the words decide any conflict.
