Writing amounts in words here
Ghana's currency is the Ghana cedi, written GH₵ or GH¢, which divides into 100 pesewas (Gp). In words an amount reads, for example, "Two thousand five hundred Ghana cedis and fifty pesewas"; use the singular for one, as in "one Ghana cedi" or "one pesewa". The Bank of Ghana calls the Ghana cedi and the Ghana pesewa the sole legal tender in the country.
Old documents and older people may use the pre-2007 cedi. In July 2007 the Bank of Ghana took four zeros off the currency, so ¢10,000 in the old cedi became GH₵1. When copying an amount from a pre-2007 contract, title deed or schedule, divide it by 10,000 to get today's cedis.
